Lamplight & Shadow

If you have any plot questions you want answered, ask away. I don't think I'll be running Axioms again, so I have no fear of answering them.
Well, here are some questions:

What was the violet moon? Who was behind it?

Where is Dworkin? Why did he disappear?

What happened at the Fount of Power?

Did Dierdre really come back from the Abyss or was she some kind of ghost? Who were the castle ghosts? I thought one of them could be Mandor.

think Sand was one of the "ghosts"in the castle and the mirrors. What the hell she was doing snooping around I have no idea.

I bet Delwin was the other, though Gideon had no idea one way or the other.

What was the violet moon? Who was behind it?
The Violet Moon was a recurring effect from before Amber. Cooperation involving Amber, Tir and Rebma had kept its effect at bay until recently.
Where is Dworkin? Why did he disappear?
Dworkin was caught - briefly - in a trap set by the scions of an unknown Power. Being who he is, they didn't hold him long, but their primary location is in the Abyss, so even he was facing trouble getting out quickly.
What happened at the Fount of Power?
The aforementioned unknown Power has been enhancing the Fount, in preparation for an attack on Amber. They weren't ready as of game close, but were getting there.
Did Dierdre really come back from the Abyss or was she some kind of ghost? Who were the castle ghosts? I thought one of them could be Mandor.
It really was Dierdre. She really came back from the Abyss. The Castle Ghosts were manifestations of another Power, controlled by Delwin and Sand.
I think Sand was one of the "ghosts"in the castle and the mirrors. What the hell she was doing snooping around I have no idea.

I bet Delwin was the other, though Gideon had no idea one way or the other.

As mentioned, they weren't the ghosts themselves, but good guess. Sand was the person in the mirrors.
How many, if any, of the rumours Saffron and Skye found were true?

Where were Saffron & Skye at game end?

What was with the freaky power trails there?

What was that Pattern in the secret corridor?

How many, if any, of the rumours Saffron and Skye found were true?
About a third of them. When I can locate the file I created, I'll let you know which ones. If anyone has a list, I can do the same.
Where were Saffron & Skye at game end?
One of the original 'real' places that existed prior to Amber. I figured about fifty existed prior to Amber.
What was with the freaky power trails there?
That particular place had been set up as a Sanctum by a powerful sorcerer. Those trails were basically connections to nearby Shadows (and Real places) draining their magic into it.
What was that Pattern in the secret corridor?
A Proto-Pattern, essentially. A means of focusing the Will, for the most part. It wouldn't have allowed travel, but a trained Will could use it to effect changes even in Amber, though they'd have been minor.
What was up with the black blade?

Why was Caine such a jerk? (lol)

Why did the Unicorn touch my leg? (Mom, the weird horse touched me in a funny way.)

What was up with that stone circle where I found the sword?

all my other questions have already been answered.

Who was really Benedict's father?

What was up with the pages in Gerard's book that smelled weird?

Who was spying on the sitting room Skye and Saffron put Deirdre in?

I am disappointed that Skye and Saffron were never needed to create a distraction in Court. ;)

What was up with the black blade?
The black blade was one of the first methods used to cross from world to world. Basically, think Phillip Pullman's The Subtle Knife. It cut through the fabric of worlds to where the wielder envisioned. Being, as it was, an early effort, it was very unsubtle, and did some lasting damage, which is why it was hidden where it was.

He's Caine? :-)
Why did the Unicorn touch my leg? (Mom, the weird horse touched me in a funny way.)
She gave Gideon a blessing, of sorts, as he was seeking answers to the issues facing Amber, and went through her area in the process.
What was up with that stone circle where I found the sword?
That was a vault, of sorts, intended to keep the sword hidden for all time. It was, of course, not proof against an Amberite.
all my other questions have already been answered.

Who was really Benedict's father?
Finndo, with his cousin Maryam. Maryam was Dworkin's only child through his Chaos wife, Perala.
What was up with the pages in Gerard's book that smelled weird?
I don't recall specifically - do you remember what I described the smell as?
Who was spying on the sitting room Skye and Saffron put Deirdre in?
No one. Gwyll was close enough in Psyche that, when he attempted to contact Saffron, he was able to tell what they were doing. Thus, he knew when they were calling her (good timing on his part, mostly) and even managed to aid them. Since Saffron's attention was entirely on her mother, she didn't sense him. Skye, who could've, was in the same league.

So am I. ;-)

The rest of the pages in the book are, indeed, blank. Though Skye can detect a faint odor of something about the pages. Maybe chemical, maybe not. But it's definitely not the musty odor one associates with books.

That's exactly what I thought when I first found it. LoL

The Unsubtle Sword, christen thee postfacto.

Did the book smell of lemons? Commonly used for writing secret letters.

Thanks for all the answers Stormraven, I appreciate it.

Ah. A bleach compound that he used to erase the rest of the pages. Something on them he didn't much like.

Well, of course. How else will you all know how damnably clever I was being? :-D
Did the book smell of lemons? Commonly used for writing secret letters.
Skye checked for that.
What was the deal with the ring and the ruby we found at the cenotaphs?
Each was an item of Power. The Ruby was the Jewel of Judgement from the potential alternate universe that was forming.

Well, not exactly an 'alternate universe'. More like a change to Amber itself that was resulting from the stresses of Tir's appearance, the Violet moon and a few other things.

The ring was Corwin's from that potential history - a Power built on song.

I knew I should have pried that out!
I love all the detail...

But man, I think you might have put to many things out there. It's like shoving a thief into the Smithsonian and saying, steal something .

Target overload

It sounded like there were several major plots going on and I don't know how we were supposed to separate them.

You see... It's most likely that we would attribute things to different plots and then get completely confused...

Which is pretty much what happened. I had a giant pile of separate weird and disconnected tidbits. Anywhere I looked, something odd was going on.

I hate to suggest too much detail is bad, but in this case...

The thing is, most of it was dictated by the actual plot. The ghosts, the trump trap that caught Dworkin, Caine's ravens - that was all connected to the primary plot by the unknown Power.

The Violet Moon was a complication, and the rest stemmed from people exploring things that just happened to be there. In order to make sure the plot worked, I did have to do a bit of history and cosmology, after all.

I can see Bryan's point; there was a lot going on, a lot of moments where we had to pick what element we wanted to follow and leave something else by the wayside or for later.

On the other hand, there was plenty for everyone, and many chances to be involved in the actual plot. Which I liked because a lot of times, what seems important turns out to be nothing and you've wasted your time. I don't think it was possible to follow a dead end in this game. They all seemed to be going somewhere.

Oh, as far as the primary plot was concerned, there were dead ends. But I tried to make sure that every path led to something, even if it was nothing but a personal gain.
I don't know.

All I can say is that I got lost in all the details.

I would also like to say that I really disliked the bidding on parents bit. :P Especialy being the only one to lose a bid and becoming the "other child."

Well, as I think I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of bidding period, but I wanted to give it a solid try - and I'd thought about gifts from parents, and the bidding idea came out.

If I do something similar in the future, I'll probably come up with packets that one can buy - or not - as the players choose.

Damn you Gwyll. Dad loved you more than me! :(

Pout.

Yea, I'm with you on the bidding thing. It can work out fine, but most of the time it just adds more work.

let's not talk about the strength/warfare deal though. :P

I gotta say I really missed talking to the other characters a lot as well. I really am starting to come to the conclusion that I prefer games based on open threads.
Nothing kept characters from returning to Amber. Though I did make Trumps difficult - part of the Violet Moon complication.

Still, I can see a definite benefit to open threads.

Not me. Part of why I liked Axioms is that my mailbox wasn't inundated with a bunch of mail that had nothing to do with me, and spoiled future surprises.
Yeah - it's why I'm of two minds about it. I'm in a PBEM game that runs onlist, so I get every email sent. And some of the players are, shall we say, prolific.

I've woken up in the morning, having cleared out my email the night before, and seen 60+ emails in my inbox.

It's a hard balance to maintain.

I also missed the little interaction between characters although I did like the separate threads for each one keeping things hidden. It should be difficult to keep so many lines open and I really appreciate all the effort put in the plots and setting details. I wish I could have been able to see the big picture in game.
